How to reconstitute research peptides: a laboratory handling guide

April 2026  ·  7 min read  ·  Bangkok Peptide Center

The basics

What does reconstitution mean?

Research peptides are shipped in lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder form for stability. Before they can be used in any laboratory research protocol, the powder must be dissolved in bacteriostatic water to create a liquid solution suitable for laboratory handling. This process is called reconstitution.

This guide describes the standard laboratory handling procedure for reconstituting research peptides as commonly described in scientific literature.

Laboratory equipment

Equipment checklist

Peptide vial

Lyophilised research peptide in powder form. Unreconstituted vials should be stored in a cool dry place away from light.

Bacteriostatic water

Also called BAC water. Contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol which prevents bacterial growth in the laboratory solution. Included with every Bangkok Peptide Center order.

Laboratory syringe

U-100 graduated syringes (1ml = 100 units) are commonly used in laboratory protocols for accurate volume measurement during reconstitution.

Alcohol swabs

To wipe the rubber stoppers of both vials before piercing. Reduces contamination risk during the reconstitution process.

Procedure

How to reconstitute a research peptide vial

⚠️

Never shake a peptide vial. Shaking can damage the peptide chain. Always swirl gently. Never introduce water directly onto the powder — always aim at the glass wall of the vial.

1

Wipe both vials

Use an alcohol swab to wipe the rubber stopper on both the peptide vial and the bacteriostatic water vial. Allow them to air dry for 10 seconds.

2

Draw the bacteriostatic water

Insert the syringe needle into the BAC water vial. Pull the plunger back to the 100 unit mark (1ml = full syringe). For 2ml, fill the syringe twice.

3

Transfer water slowly down the vial wall

Insert the needle into the peptide vial at an angle so the tip touches the inside glass wall. Release the water slowly down the side of the glass. Do not aim at the powder directly.

4

Swirl gently until dissolved

Roll the vial gently between palms or swirl in a circular motion. The powder should dissolve completely into a clear solution. This usually takes 15-30 seconds.

5

Refrigerate immediately

Once reconstituted, store the vial at 2-8°C (standard refrigerator temperature) away from light. Use within 4 weeks. Never freeze a reconstituted vial.

Concentration reference

Reconstitution volumes and laboratory measurements

The amount of BAC water added determines the concentration of the resulting solution. The table below shows reconstitution volumes commonly used in research literature for Bangkok Peptide Center products and the resulting concentration per 10 graduated units.

Peptide BAC Water 10 units =
Tirzepatide 10mg 2ml 500mcg
เทซาโมเรลิน 10 มิลลิกรัม 2ml 500mcg

How long does a reconstituted vial last?

Once mixed, research peptides are stable for up to 4 weeks when stored refrigerated at 2-8°C. After 4 weeks the peptide begins to degrade. Unreconstituted powder stored correctly can last months to years.

Only reconstitute what is needed within 4 weeks. If multiple vials are on hand, keep the others in powder form until needed.

Bangkok Peptide Center includes free bacteriostatic water with every order. BAC water contains a preservative that keeps the solution stable for the full 4 weeks — plain sterile water does not and is only suitable for single-use research applications.

Common mistakes

What to avoid

The most common mistake is shaking the vial. Shaking creates air bubbles and mechanical stress that can break the peptide chain. Always swirl gently.

The second most common mistake is releasing water directly onto the powder. This causes foaming and can denature the peptide. Always aim at the glass wall and let the water run down slowly.

Third is storing reconstituted peptides at room temperature. Once mixed, peptides must stay refrigerated. Leaving them out for extended periods significantly reduces potency.

Finally — never freeze a reconstituted peptide. Freezing and thawing damages the peptide structure. Freeze-dried powder can be frozen for long term storage, but once mixed it stays in the fridge only.
